Game and Nature
In Andorra there are different lakes, but one of the most popular is the Lake of Engolasters, possibly, thanks to its location. It is located above the capital of the Principality, or according to a story its location is due to… In distant and almost forgotten times, in this place there was a rich and beautiful town. Each house was built with the best stones, the stables were full of domestic animals and the farmers overflowed with harvests just collected. This town lived in this way, in a peaceful and richful way transferred from generation to generation. One day in the afternoon, a miserable beggar appeared in the streets of the town, he was wearing scruffy clothes and had a tired face which could not leave anybody indifferent. This poor person began to knock on the doors of the houses in order to ask for a place to stay and he also asked for something to eat. He went from house to house, but nobody opened him the door.
The Madriu-Perafita-Claror Nature Park is the biggest park in Andorra, with over 40,000 protected hectares in the parishes of Andorra la Vella, Encamp, Escaldes-Engordany and Sant Julià de Lòria. It covers 10{0e9b289f03dbe28f1b083e8106145357e0c76b80aac603f24c0a60b55c3893a2} of the surface area of Andorra and its landscape is spectacularly beautiful, which is why it was declared a UNESCO cultural landscape world heritage site. Guided tours for visitors are organised in summer to discover not just the fauna and flora, but also the footprint left by humans, who have made sustainable use of its resources for over 700 years. The “bordas” (small buildings for farm animals) and remains of forges are just two such examples. It has four big car parks at the main entrances in each parish. In Andorra la Vella you’ll also find the Portal del Valle (c/ Prat de la Creu 74-76), a visitors’ reception centre. The nature park also has a number of mountain shelters.
